File an OPRA Request

PARENTS RIGHTS TO PUBLIC INFORMATION

OPRA is a New Jersey state law that was enacted to give the public greater access to government records maintained by public agencies in New Jersey. The public has the right under OPRA to examine or obtain copies of those public records that are not subject to exceptions from disclosure. Under OPRA, all levels of New Jersey government are required to produce records, when properly requested.

If a requester is denied access to a government record, the custodian must provide the requester with the reason(s) for denial and written notice of the requester’s rights to appeal the denial or resubmit the OPRA with changes.

YOUR STUDENT HAS STATE AND FEDERAL RIGHTS

If you believe your rights have been violated under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) or the Protection of Pupil Rights Amendment (PPRA), please review the videos and instructions below to learn how to file a complaint with the Student Privacy Policy Office (SPPO).  While the videos are specific to FERPA complaints, a similar process applies to OPRA complaints.
